New website now live!

As you can see, the CAFL Webmaster has completed the new website, first mentioned at last year's annual general meeting. This redesign aims chiefly to make Association information easier to find, relay current events effectively to members, and use more visuals to show just exactly what the trade is and does. Comments and constructive input on the new design are welcome, along with any problems members encounter when using it.

Retirement of Capt Stephane Brisson, SIGNALS

Results from the 21st Petawawa Branch Fishing Derby

The 21st Petawawa Branch Fishing Derby at Corry Lake was a huge success! The weather was nice and it was great to see members of our lineman family from all over.

  • Juliette Morneau, Junior category
This charity event helped raise $1000 to the Soldier On program for ill and injured veterans, with special mention to Patrick Carson from Anixter who donated a hand-crafted games table to the raffle. Thank you all for coming!

Reminder: C&E Association Netherlands battlefield study tour

A reminder that the next battlefield study tour still has some spots left! This amazing opportunity starts 30 Apr 2020 and allows members to take a trip through the Netherlands, experiencing the 75th anniversary of the Nazi occupation being lifted where the C&E branch played a major role. More details and registration can be found here. There is also a beer to commemorate the occasion, with a portion of the proceeds helping to send veterans on the tour.

A collaborative research project at 77 Line Regiment has yielded an impressive 49-page document on the history of the line trade. Ranging 1867 to the present day, this quick read serves as a commemoration of a trade that has contributed to every major Canadian victory yet most know little about.

Petawawa Branch meeting and fishing derby

The Petawawa Branch held a meeting to vote in new branch committee members (congratulations!) and plan the yearly Petawawa Fishing Derby. Minutes of the meeting can be found here.

The fishing derby will be held on 9 - 11 Aug at Corry Lake (same area as last year). Details will follow, but interested members can contact the new Petawawa Entertainment Representive, Charles Harris, at charles.harris@forces.gc.ca for information in the meantime.

Retirement of Maj Donald Chretien, SIGNALS

With over 28 years of service, Maj Donald Chretien will be retiring from the CAF on 24 Jun. His full retirement message can be viewed here.

A DWD function will be held to honor him at 1200 hrs on 13 Sep 2019, at the Royal Canadian Legion #560 (734 Montreal Street, Kingston, Ontario). $20.00 will be collected at the door to cover costs of the function and retirement gifts, with food and drink available for purchase. Retirement of MWO Phil Ferguson, LINEMAN

With over 32 years of service, MWO Phil Ferguson will be retiring from the Canadian Armed Forces on 2 Jul 2019. His retirement message can be viewed here.

A light lunch of chili and bun will be served with coffee and tea at a cost of $10.00 to go towards Phil’s retirement gift. New Veteran's Service Card

The new Veteran’s Service Card (VSC) helps you stay connected to military and veteran support programs during your transition from military to civilian life. This card also recognizes your previous service as a Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) member. Those who have completed basic training and been honourably released from the CAF are eligible and encouraged to apply for a card here.

Donations for Karen Eichler

Lineman Richard Eichler's wife Karen was diagnosed with cancer in December and a GoFundMe page has been set up by his sister to help. Karen and Richard live in Gander, Newfoundland with their 4 children. The funds raised will help their family with family care, incidental costs, and travel to St. John's for treatment. Any support to help those who support our line family is appreciated.
